The Concept

Our individuation journey requires us to separate from the collective thought, starting with our parents, so we can become an individual and connect with our authentic self. By individuating, we develop our unique identity and can then reconnect with our loved ones from a more mature and authentic place.

The Image

In this artwork, the sitter affirms her individuality, set against a minimalist white backdrop that eliminates all distractions. The use of black and white enhances the essence of the portrait, focusing attention on the subject's unique identity. By holding her parents' hands, she acknowledges her genetic and spiritual heritage, yet also declares her independence as a unique expression of the universe. By including only their hands, we transform the piece from a literal family portrait into a conceptual artwork, highlighting the interconnectedness and individuality of the sitter.

The Print

The portrait is captured using both a medium format film camera and a full frame digital camera, allowing for versatility in printing. We can produce high-quality prints using either an inkjet process or traditional darkroom silver gelatin printing, depending on the collector's preference. The print comes in three sizes: Large (30x40 inches / 76x102 cms), Medium (24x30 inches / 61x76 cms), and Small (20x24 inches / 51x61 cms). Frame dimensions must be added to these print sizes.

The true worth of this art piece is realized when the parents are no longer with us. It then serves as a poignant reminder that, with all their human frailties, they were always present and supportive. As time passes, the artwork's value will only appreciate, becoming a treasured legacy.

The Frame

The frame was custom-designed for this piece and features a striking combination of two high-quality woods: one light and one dark. This deliberate contrast represents the dualities we all possess – light and dark, good and bad, hope and despair – a poignant reminder of the complexities of the human experience.
